People In Action

I teach pre school at People In Action. This is a program that I worked at while I was an undergrad at Le Moyne. Once I graduated my boss hired me on staff to help run the pre school program. I love my job. I work with fifteen students that are between the ages of 2-5. Many of my students are from different cultures. This has exposed me to many new experiences. It is not always easy because most of my studnets speak a different language at home. A few of the students do not speak any English and are learning as we go. It is great when a student learns a new word in English. They are so proud of themselves, as they should be. I believe this job has opened my eyes to all different walks of life. Although many of my students are of different backgrounds we still have a great sense of classroom community. I feel working at this program is a great experience to have and will help me be a better teacher in the future.

  1. That's so exciting that the students are from different cultures and are able to be together experiencing each other's cultures at such a young age. I can only imagine the kind of great stuff you can teach them. I'll be excited to read about it.

  2. Working with kids these ages is great! I work as an Early Intervention teacher so I work with kids from birth-5. I agree that it is exciting to see kids learn new words. Some of the families I work with don't speak any English and I am going in to their homes to work with the kids, so it is sometimes challenging but always rewarding!

  3. I have loved every minute working with these kids. I have seem some of them move on from our program into school. Seeing their growth is amazing. Each week I have a theme and have five new words to go along with that theme. This has extremely helped the students who don't speak English expand their vocabulary. It is great to see how far they have come since the start of the school year.
